Gift: What type of jewelry is fitting for Chinese culture?

My gf is Chinese and I’d like to buy her a little something special. We are quite far along in our relationship and I’d like to offer her a little something that would show her that I love her very much.
I’m trying to hit it right on the head by getting her a piece of jewelry that she’ll like but also that she will enjoy wearing. I don’t want her to see it, say It’s great to be nice but never wear it.

I’d like to find information on what the usual Chinese custom is for that type of gifts. I was thinking gold necklace or earrings but I’m never sure what meaning is associated with which…
