I have a large stone in my front yard, that I have been told is Jade. How do I confirm this?

Red Hot asked:

I was wondering who can confirm that it really is Jade. If it is, in fact, Jade, then where do I sell it? How much is it worth? Any tips would be helpful…Thanks!

i have a kitten that im told is jade lol actually its just her name maybe u could find someone who specializes in gems or rocks i dunno

Jade is fairly precious, so it is unlikely that you would have a large chunk of it in your yard. You more likely have another type of stone with a similar color, that someone called jade.

Jade is somewhat translucent, so if the edges allow light to leak through, you are on the right track. If the stone is opaque, it’s just a rock.

Go to a lapidary or rocks and gems store, ask for the local rock expert, and tell him about it, and ask him to come and look. Or find your local rock club, and ask the most expert member to come and identify it for you. Jade is very hard, and can be black,or shades of green depending on where you got it. i even have some pink jade from Kansas, and some black jade from oregon, green from California and Canada, and pale green and pink from China. It is going to be hard to identify sight unseen, because there are other stones that look like jade, and someone is going to have to actually look at it.
